The Castlebar based fibre optic technology company Fibrepulse has been awarded the prestigious “Excellence Through People “ award. The award was presented by the Minister for Labour, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Mr. Tom Kitt at a ceremony at the Burlington Hotel, Dublin on Monday May 14^th 2001.

The award is Irelands National standard for Human Resource Development. Fibrepulse is the second company on Mayo to achieve the standard.

“We are delighted to have achieved the standard, as it is a recognition of the whole team at Fibrepulse” commented Rory Casey (Managing Director). “While new technology is fine, it is our people who drive Fibrepulse forward – they give us our competitive edge. This award is to do with people, and this is why it is so important to us”.

“It was a big challenge for all of us” said Yvonne McNea (Training Coordinator).  ”The standard makes you look forward and plan what our training needs would be for the next few years. This is difficult at the best of times, but is even harder in a high growth company like our own. We know that we can only succeed by identifying potential gaps before they appear, and training all our people to cope with these new requirements”.

“Fibrepulse has made a huge investment in training from the day we opened our doors” continues Casey. “Because we are involved in emerging technology, there are no “off the shelf” training courses. It has required a lot of innovation from our team, as all our training modules were developed in-house.  The assessor was impressed by the teamwork and highlighted this in his report saying ”the company operates under a very open style of management. There is a lot of interaction between the management and staff and a strong team spirit exists”.

The company started in late 1998 has 48 employees, and looks to continue on the rapid growth path. The company is building a new facility in Drumconlan (beside Johnson’s), which will facilitate further growth. “We have had great start but the new building will bring us to the next level. “We are all looking forward to the move in July”, concludes Casey.  Further information about the company can be found on their website www,fibrepulse.com
