Castlebar company establishes link with GMIT Castlebar - 30/10/2002
Castlebar based company FibrePulse has linked up with the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology.

Rory Casey, managing director of FibrePulse, said he was pleased to announce the award to the best 1st year Electronics student in Castlebar. The FibrePulse Award for Academic Excellence will include a specially cast medal and a small financial award to the student.

FibrePulse designs and manufactures high performance fibre optic devices. Electronic and Computer Engineering Diploma students have visited the company on a number of occasions over the past couple of years for tours of the plant and Rory commented that he was happy to see this continue.

Dr. Katie Sweeney welcomed the announcement of the award saying "The establishment of such links with industry is of the utmost importance, both to local industry and to the Institute here in Castlebar. American Power Corporation (APC) sponsor the best Year 2 Electronics student and Northern Telecom of Galway sponsor the best Electronics Diploma student. We plan to further enhance our links with industry by establishing a Business Incubation Centre on the Castlebar campus."

The award winning student will be announced at the graduation ceremony in Castlebar on November 23rd.

GMIT@Castlebar offers a 2 year National Certificate in Electronic Engineering and a one year add-on Diploma in Electronic and Computer Engineering. Students can then progress to a BSc degree in Computing at the Castlebar campus or a BEng in Electronic Engineering at the Galway campus.
